So he brought his group down for the day and after lunch they went out on the beach with us to pass out water and gospel tracts. So I would just like to thank White Level Baptist Church from Louisburg, NC for coming down today and helping us out on the beach.

July 4th Week

Hello again to all of our readers!

I just wanted to give you all a chance to pray for somethings this week. This is the week of July 4th. If you've been around the beach for awhile you know that this is the busiest week we have in the year. There will be thousands of visitors on the Island that will be here only for this week or weekend. They need Jesus. Pray for us that we would be effective evangelist on the beach and that God in his providence would send us to the right people and send the right people to us. We will be passing out hundreds of bottles of water this week along with gospel tracts. We pray to the Lord of the harvest that he would use this things as well as allow us to strike up gospel centered conversations with the people on the beach.

The weekend of the 4th is always a busy one and I can't imagine this one being any different. Every year we set up on the lot and pass out sno-cones, popcorn, and water early during the afternoon and usually hang around until after the program. It always presents us with the opportunity to meet hundreds of people right on our little square of gravel at K and Atlantic. Pray for this and if you'd like come on out and help pass things out.

This week we'll be getting some help from Idlewild Baptist Church from Matthews, NC. They'll be working along side of Ethan and I on Friday and Saturday. Pray for them as they have a retreat and come link arms with us for ministry of gospel proclamation. As they're here on the beach I'll be taking pictures and posting them along with any stories from the week.

Thank you all so much for your prayers and support!

-soli deo gloria-
Allen

Southside and FBC Hampton

The guys at Southside Baptist put together a promo video for their week of working with us July 17-24th.

Update 6/18

Hello World!

Things are going great down here at Kure Beach! God is doing some incredible things. Ethan and I have been out beach passing out water and have had the chance to have some good conversations with people. Lots of people have had the message of the gospel given to them. We've found several believers out on the beach who have been encouraged by the work of evangelism.

Today was great when we were able to meet an IMB missionary of 14 years who was stateside on Sabbatical to teach other headed to the mission field. Pray for our missionaries on the field, both across the ocean, and for those here in North America. Our Lord has given us a commission to preach the gospel and make disciples of all nations. That includes closed countries across the globe and our little stretch of sand. Just this week we were able to meet and talk to a woman who was vacationing from Germany. You never know who you cam me and where they are from out on the beach. What I do know is that every single person we meet out on the beach has a story and is in need of the gospel. I also know that there work doesn't stop when you cross the dunes or the bridge back into Wilmington. The work of evangelism is needed everywhere. Will you go? Will you proclaim the gospel in word and deed?

The evening programs have been going great! We've had a tremendous turnout on the lot. I hope and pray this is the trend for the summer. Ethan and I are still puppeteering away. If you'd like to come down and help out let us know. We are very grateful for the help we've been getting from some individuals in the church. An extra set of hands to help pass out popcorn, make sno-cones, or help set up and tear down makes a huge difference. It also gives everyone in the church a chance to get involved. After all it is the Kure Beach First Baptist Church Resort Ministry, the whole church can get involved. If you don't think you can do anything, there are a few things that we can always use. One is to come stand on the lot and watch the show, it makes the show seem more inviting. We could also use some help for people to invite people to come see the programs and invite people to come get popcorn and sno-cones when we're passing it out. We also still ask for your prayers! That is a huge thing. Still be praying for the people we meet and God's providence there. Pray for the groups that will be coming in July. Pray for Ethan and I. Most of all just pray that God would be glorified and Christ be known at Kure Beach.

soli deo gloria
-to God alone be the glory-

Allen

Kickoff!

Hello world!

It has been quite a while since we have had a post on the blog. The summer of 2010 is here and the work on the beach has begun. Last week was spent pulling everything out of the trailer, the attic, closets, and cabinets.

The puppets enjoyed their vacation! This past Saturday night were our first programs of the summer. We had a great turn out of over 60 people for our first two shows. The puppets still have their spunk and can draw a crowd. The gospel is still being proclaimed in truth on our little street corner. The next day was our annual Beach Blessing. Pastor Joey prayed over the beach for a safe hurricane season, as well as a good tourist season, for the safety of those visiting this Island, and for our resort ministry. We followed the beach blessing with popcorn and sno-cones. We were able to make contact with several people. Several gospel tracts were given out and a program followed. It was a wonderful start for the season!

This week things have still involved a little of preparation and advertising for the season. Nevertheless, the work on the beach has continued. Our programs have been going well. Last night we received a huge blessing from the Lord when the rains were held back. The sky was really dark and it looked as though the bottom could have dropped out at any moment. But the rains held off and we were able to do both of our programs. I was able to use Caleb's crowd favorite "Big Fish" as a springboard for the gospel. The song tells the story of Jonah. I was able to tell a bit more of Jonah's story to the crowd following the song. Our story is much the same of Jonah. We're all rebels running from the will of God. Yet he pursues us with his relentless grace. The message of Jonah that, "Salvation is from the LORD." is still true today. It is our prayer that God will do a work of grace this summer for his glory on this Island. That he will pursue rebellious sinners and draw them to himself through the proclamation of his Word.

I hope to be more diligent in posting on the blog this summer to keep everyone updated on what is going on with the ministry here at Kure Beach First Baptist. We really would love your prayers and support! Pray for Ethan and I as we work together and share the gospel on the beach this month. We're all alone for the month of June. If you want to give us a hand don't hesitate to ask and jump in and serve. July will be filled with groups and we would ask that you would also be in prayer for them as they prepare to come down. Pray for the souls that we will encounter on the beach. Everyone of them have a story and they just like every person on the planet are in need of the glorious and gracious saving gospel of Jesus Christ.

soli deo gloria
-to God alone be the glory-

Allen - Summer Missionary

Do you care enough?

On Gospel Tracts

<img style="display:block; With only 4 groups to be here for 3 weeks out of 10 total weeks of ministry this summer I was quite discouraged. Though my faith lacks, God is faithful. About a week ago we received a call from the youth pastor at Antioch Baptist Church in Mt. Airy, NC. He told us that they were having a week long retreat of their own at Kure Beach. He asked if there was anything they could do with us while they were down. This week we don't have a group coming in until the weekend. To make a not so long story the same length, we have a group helping us this week. God is faithful to send people to help proclaim his gospel message at Kure Beach.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/Slye4aZuEFI/AAAAAAAAARo/IOyIJB-74To/s320/101_0426.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358332348661108818" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/Slyes5fMBFI/AAAAAAAAARg/OKicG2gqy3E/s320/101_0429.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358332150847112274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SlyfAGD2VcI/AAAAAAAAARw/TZhPsMgOtNE/s320/101_0431.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358332480639620546" />

You can check out their youth ministry page here.

Gone Fishin'

"Follow me and I will make you fishers of men"- Jesus

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SleEJjDcxXI/AAAAAAAAARY/N8H1qO2VFbU/s320/101_0412.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5356895581343892850" />
The calling of Jesus to follow him is one to tell others of his saving grace. Our purpose at Kure Beach is to be fishers of men and edify the body of Christ on Pleasure Island. One of the groups of people we are trying to minister to are the fishermen on the island. Hundreds of people can be found fishing on this island on any given weekend. Several times a week I am one of those fishermen and I always try to look for opportunities to share the gospel with other fishermen. I posted earlier about the grubs we had ordered and we now have everything we need to give them out. We're taking a 1/2oz jig head, two grubs, a gospel tract, and a New Testament and putting them in baggies to give away to the fishermen. I gave away two this morning on the beach to a fisherman and his friend collecting bait to go drum fish later today. I pray that God would bless the passing out of these bags, and that people would be prompted to read his word and come to repentance through the power of the gospel.

"Lift up thyself then, O my soul, Christ can make thee a fisher of men, however week thou art. They have been a great group so far and will be with us through the 5th. We gave out about 400 bottles of water on Sunday for the triathlon, along with a bunch of gospel tracts. Yesterday alone we were able to give out around 150 bottles of water on the beach, along with about 100 gospel tracts. God has provided laborers for the harvest this week who are really willing to share their faith. All sorts of gospel centered conversations have been taking place thoughout the week with people at the programs, on the beach, and at night while I've been fishing. Last night I was able to share the gospel with a young man who had never heard anything about the bible. God is good, and I pray that he uses the bible that was given to the young man last night.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SkuKverPmLI/AAAAAAAAAPQ/mezaTsFKiD8/s320/101_0257.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353525130352892082" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SkuLIE0pgMI/AAAAAAAAAPY/zITuqvouusE/s320/101_0272.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353525552909746370" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SkuLbeTk0-I/AAAAAAAAAPg/BDMM5LODbPg/s320/101_0270.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5353525886167864290" />

For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. One of the books I am attempting to read this summer is a short work by Thomas Boston. It is titled The Art of Manfishing: A Puritan view of Evangelism. I am a big fan of the Puritans and I spent some time last summer reading an exposition of Malachi 3:16-18 by Thomas Watson. Being that my sole purpose at Kure Beach is to be a minister of the gospel and I love the Puritans, I couldn't help but pick up this little book. In my reading I have found myself underlining and bracketing over and over, and I would like to share one of these quotes with the readers of this blog.

"Lift up thyself then, O my soul, Christ can make thee a fisher of men, however weak thou art. I'm so excited from last nights program. We had around 120 people at last nights programs. We had one family who asked us to pray with them. It is always a blessing to be able to pray with people out on the sand, and on the lot during the evenings. Last night what really excited me is that we had 8 people who came up asking for bibles after the programs. Eight people now have the word of God living and active in their hands to read. But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? I'm learning new things every class that prepare me to be a more effective gospel witness. One of the things that my prof. and our texts have been giving much emphasis to is being intentional in sharing the gospel. Being intentional on how you live your everyday life. Going to the same places over and over to build relationships so that you can engage in gospel centered conversations. I absolutely agree and have tried to do so a bit in the past, but the idea is now in the front of my mind more than ever.

I had a bit of an illustrative moment as I was walking down the beach on Masonboro last week. Every time I go to the beach I always look for shells. I've passed over probably hundreds of thousands of shells in my lifetime. But ever since I took Oceanography in high school, I learned a lot more about shells. I have began to notice shells like I have never noticed them before. I used to be nothing more than a surf fisherman who just wanted to get out a line. But now I've found myself being more attentive to the shells beneath my feet.

We pass hundreds of people everyday as Christians, and we often think no more about the lostness of the people we pass then I did when I crunched shells beneath the boot of my size 13 chest waders.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/Sb2abd8afMI/AAAAAAAAAMg/aLO_dMrf0RM/s320/100_0957.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5313572932052221122" />

But now I've been taught of the shells around me and I begin to look for certain shells. When I went to Masonboro I managed to find 4 beautiful whelks, like the one above. All because I kept my eyes open.

We pass hundreds of people in our lives, and we must be aware that the vast majority of them do not have a relationship with Jesus. We must be intentional in sharing the gospel. We must become aware of the people around us, and be willing to build relationships. At times ever get up and walk away from the pleasant firm sand of life to trudge up the berm and pick up the shell we see out of the corner of our eye. Maybe even be willing to get our feet wet when we see a shell rolling around and being beaten by the surf.

Are we willing to walk a bit further to share the good news of our Savior's love, are we willing to get our feet wet?

solideogloria- Allen

Morning Idea

The staff and Kure Beach First Baptist and I have been trying to think of some other activities for the time spent on the beach in the mornings. We have several ideas but one we have thought of doing was given in part by a group that came during the summer of 2008. We spent one morning prayer walking. We split up into two groups and went to the far reaches of Kure Beach and prayer walked to the middle. If we truly believe the words of our Savior in Matthew 9 that I posted on in the previous post. Then we really need to be about praying for the harvest of souls that come to Pleasure Island.

I believe with all of my heart that the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf when we pray to our Father in heaven. With all of that said, one of the things we plan to do this summer is take a morning or two out of the week to prayer walk. We want to drench the island in prayers this summer. It is most important that we pray about the mission work done this summer. It is not the work of men we seek to do, but we seek to do the will of God. In doing so we seek to bring him glory in the things we do. So as we go about giving out water and hopefully sharing of the living water of eternal life that comes alone from Christ Jesus we desire to be diligent and ever so zealous about praying for the people we encounter. If we really care for the lives of the people that come to our evening entertainment we need to pray that God would sent the right people and open their hearts to the gospel message as it is preached.

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies--in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. - 1 Peter 4:8-11

Join with us in praying for the vacationers, residents, church memebers, and mission teams that are going to be at Kure Beach this summer.

SDG- Allen

Praying for Summer 09'

Next week the flyers go out across the state to the local Baptist Associations informing them of the missions opportunities at Kure Beach. But unfortunately his wife's step-father has been diagnosed with cancer. Nathan will be moving to South Carolina tomorrow morning to stay for the rest of the summer. He has poured his heart into Pleasure Island and has a true heart for the gospel, doing all he could to get the gospel message out. His diligence in teaching Sunday school, and leading bible study with the visiting youth groups has been reflective of his study of the Word. His puppetry(if that is a word) will be dearly missed. Vincent was certianly a crowd favorite, the 'Throw up song' will never be the same. Chris Rice might find pride in Kirby's version of his 'Cartoon Song.'

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SHn2yuczqHI/AAAAAAAAAEw/vTHyDyuotvg/s320/Resort+Ministries+046.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5222476594235549810" />

I've loved working with Nathan this summer, he is way more than a professor and fellow missionary. The group from Metrolina did a great job passing out goodie bags, popcorn, and water yesterday. Lots of tracts were given out, and several people were prayed for. Early in the morning the missionaries and the group did some prayer walking around the church. God truley answered the prayers as the turn out Friday night was high. Nearly 200 people were at the programs while Dr. Bob from Metrolina shared the gospel and what it means to have true freedom. We had a great time with the group from Metrolina and are quite humbled in the way God worked on the island. Nearly 1000bottles of water were given out throughout the week, and hundreds of people were able to hear the gospel message through preaching and tracts. It is our prayer that God continues to do a work, and uses us as a means to share the gospel.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_3Nop8eKW9gI/SG_Fsq4oGVI/AAAAAAAAAEY/onB8WenyPLI/s320/KureMissionFBC_109.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5219607864362408274" />

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed in him, "If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." They answered him, "We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, 'You will become free'?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.-John 8:31-36

Prayer

This week with the Metrolina Association we've been able to put a lot of emphasis on prayer. This morning the group along with the missionaries split up into two teams. The first team went to the Carolina Beach/Kure Beach line, and the second down to Fort Fisher. The teams walked the beach for nearly three miles praying for the beach, and for the proclamation of the gospel.

"The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!"-Psalms 97:1

Welcome the Metrolina Baptist Association

We'd like to welcome the group from the Metrolina Baptist Association to Kure Beach. One thing that we've began to fish a few nights a week on the surf. Its great to find the common ground between fisherman. Its always easy to strike up a conversation about whats biting(and what was biting). We pray in God's providence that he allows for conversations about the gospel to open up. In a couple cases we've been able to talk to some folks, and invite them to church.

Keep Fishin'

SDG

Tracts...

Tracts come in quite many different forms and with many different messages. Some aren't so sound, other don't even begin to convey the gospel. But we've found some great tracts through Crossway. We've got some great stuff from Billy Graham, Jack Graham, and John Piper. I'd encourage anyone to check those out. Here is the complete text of one of the Billy Graham tracts we ordered.

Over the years I have talked to thousands of people who have asked me how to find their way to God. Some have sat in church pews all their lives but never come to personally know God. Others have sought for ultimate meaning in all sorts of ways but never found the peace of mind for which they were searching. Some simply realize that there is something vital missing in their lives.

The Bible teaches that this sense of lostness is rooted in the fact that we live in a fallen world in which we are all handicapped by a sin nature: we "all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). And despite our best efforts we are unable to remove the haunting weight of guilt that separates us from our Creator.

God sent his Son to solve our dilemma. "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

Jesus Christ made the way to God for us by his death on the Cross. He purchased our salvation by the shedding of his blood. His death and resurrection made a new and everlasting covenant between God and humanity.

Jesus told his disciples, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6). He did not merely point the way to God. He himself claimed to be the only way to the Father and the source of eternal truth and life.

The way to God is through personal faith in Jesus Christ. Intellectual acceptance of Christ is not enough. You must come to him determined to turn from what displeases him, with a total trust in Christ's saving power for you.

Christ promises those who turn to him: "Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed from death to life" (John 5:24).

Today you can come to him by surrendering your life and heart to Christ. The Bible says: "To all who received him (Jesus Christ), to those who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

Right where you are you can pray something like this: "Lord, I know that I have sinned and need your forgiveness. There always seems to be a way to get the attention to share the gospel, even puppets "Singing" for Jesus.

The puppets are lifeless until Nathan puts his hand inside, and this has proved a good parallel with the gospel.
